8 Eco-Friendly Valentine’s Day Gifts

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite Holidays! Even though some people (myself included) consider it a capitalist scam to sell more products, I don’t see why we can’t make the most of that by giving sustainable gifts to the people we love.

Regardless of whether or not you have a significant other, you can still celebrate Valentine’s Day with your friends, roommates, family, etc. its just a day to show appreciation and love and I think that’s really cute!

1. Ethically Made Chocolate

Chocolate is probably the most common gift given on Valentine’s Day, but did you know that most chocolate brands use slave labor in their manufacturing process?

Linked above is my article with several different brands that you can feel good about purchasing, as the ingredients are sustainably and ethically sourced.

2. Local Flowers

Shopping locally is one of the easiest ways to decrease your impact on the environment, and you can feel good about supporting small businesses in your community.

A quick Google search should show you where to buy flowers near you, and they’ll probably be better quality than the supermarket too!

3. Low-Waste Jewelry

Jewelry is another popular gift that’s not always sustainable. Linked above is my article on eco-friendly jewelry from Etsy shops, so you can support a healthy environment and small business owners. Or if your partner is an old soul, you can find them a stylish vintage piece.

4. Eco-Friendly Bath Products

If your loved one enjoys pampering themselves then nice bath products can make a great gift, but they aren’t all created equal. Lush products are handmade in small batches, cruelty-free, and low-waste.

They also have themed items for Valentine’s Day so you can pick out the perfect gift for that special someone.

5. Recycled Paper Journal

I have this journal and I love it so much! The pages are made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper and the dotted grid is printed with vegetable ink.

I love the idea of sharing a journal with your partner that you can pass back and forth and leave notes for each other.

6. Houseplant

If you’re on a budget this Valentine’s day, a houseplant is the perfect inexpensive gift that’s still thoughtful and personal.

Make sure you pick one out that’s not to difficult to care for if they’re a new plant parent, and if you need ideas you can check out the article I’ve linked above.

7. Sustainable Underwear

MeUndies is an eco-friendly and ethical underwear brand that makes matching sets for couples! They’re underwear is made from a biodegradable fabric that’s sustainably sourced and relies on renewable energy. They also sell individual pairs, but I think the matching sets would make a super cute gift.

8. Homemade Treats

There’s nothing more special than making something to give to your significant other, and even if baking isn’t you’re forte they’ll still appreciate the love you put into it. I’ve linked a recipe for chocolate truffles by GoingZeroWaste that are super simple to make.

I hope these ideas will help you gift more sustainably this Valentine’s Day, and remember that the holiday is really about being together with the person you love. Thank you for reading, have a lovely day!
